Psychological Assessment & Consulting:
Evaluation of Individuals and Organizations
Meet Dr. King
Dr. Julia King earned her doctorate in clinical psychology (Psy.D.) and MBA from Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania. She pursued these degrees simultaneously which allowed her to apply her knowledge of psychology to what she was learning about business administration. Further, she specialized her clinical training in the area of forensic psychology, with a particular emphasis on forensic assessment.
Completing a post-doctoral fellowship in forensic psychology with the University of Cincinnati's Institute for Psychiatry and Law (IPL) provided Dr. King with advanced training in the art and science of forensic evaluation. Further, during this experience, she evaluated individuals ranging in age from children to the elderly, while performing such assessments in wide variety of legal contexts.
Subsequent to completing the fellowship, Dr. King became the Director of Forensic Services at one of the 10 state-certified forensic centers in Ohio (Forensic and Mental Health Services, Inc. in Hamilton, Ohio), and also launched a private practice. In that role she served as President and Chair of the Education Committee for the Association of the Ohio Forensic Psychiatric Center Directors.
She continues to teach in IPL's post-doctoral forensic psychiatry fellowship and has previously served as an an adjunct faculty member in the Psychology department at the University of Cincinnati.
Finally, Dr. King is a member of the American Psychology-Law Society and the Cincinnati Academy of Professional Psychologists.
As a private forensic practitioner and organizational consultant, Dr. King's passion is in practically applying the principles of clinical psychology to assist in answering questions that arise in the arena of law and the world of business.
Practical Applications of Clinical Psychology
The process of applying the principles of clinical psychology to practical situations, particularly with regard to matters of law and within the business environment, is fascinating to Dr. King. She thoroughly enjoys utilizing the principles of her field in functional ways to assist the attorneys, courts, agencies, and organizations retaining her services in their decision making.
Furthermore, Dr. King truly believes her work has a significant real world impact. For example, she expects that her assessment of divorcing parents will assist the trier of fact in making the most appropriate ruling; and she trusts that her recommendations will assist organizations in meeting their goals more effectively and efficiently.
As a result, Dr. King finds considerable meaning in her role as an objective evaluator and is confident, therefore, that those who retain her services will be satisfied with her professionalism and the final work product.
To Dr. King, performing an evaluation is very much like putting together a puzzle. Regardless of whether the subject of the evaluation is an individual, a family, or a business, the first step is to gather all of the data pieces together; and the second is to objectively review that data to determine the best fit, thus allowing the referral question to be answered.
Once the puzzle is complete, and the answers obtained, its time to tell the story of the results. The results of the evaluation, relevant to the referral question, are presented to provide direction to the referring party; and can be presented in the form of a written report or via verbal consultation.
As Dr. King performs assessments objectively and independently, the results of her evaluations may at times be contrary to the interests of the retaining party; however, Dr. King's firm stance on presenting an impartial, unbiased opinion has resulted in her developing the respect of her colleagues and a reputation beyond reproach.
